Best Hood Ornament Ever!
So I was walking around the colfax area, not getting anything to shoot, and I decided to stroll up one of the side streets. I found this old dodge truck. I don’t know what it is about me lately that has really been digging old trucks, but man I’ve really been digging old trucks. I think it’s my lack of models to shoot. Honestly it’s hilarious. Also I think I’m copying my uncle who has a ton of pictures of old car chrome parts. It’s a cool series. You can see some of the series here.
So here is this shot I took of this great trout hood ornament. Trout are so great. For those of you who don’t know I LOVE fly fishing. It’s always been a passion of mine since I was a little kid. My grand
dad taught me how to fly fish, and now the the pupil has become the mentor. If you know what a double haul is then you know what i’m talking about. Lefty gives a great tutorial herefor anyone who’s curious. Looks easy right? Yah it’s not. I don’t know what it is about being on the river, but it’s definitely the most centering thing that I can do. I love sitting out on the river enjoying the sun, the fresh air, and being a part of nature. For anyone who’s a real fanatic about hunting and fishing, let me give you a little disclaimer here. I only keep them if I’m going to eat them that night, and for the most part , 99% of the time, I don’t keep them.
Anyways as far as the shot goes, this was shot at about ISO 320, f/3.5, 1/640, at 85mm. Again this is with my 85mm. I can’t get enough of this lens. I’m really starting to feel like if I get another lens it’s going to be the 70-200 2.8, just because on a full frame camera that seems to be the focal length that I really like the best. I’m surprised I haven’t taken more shots wide open on this lens, but it just seems like the DOF, is just way too small when it’s that wide open. Although I haven’t been in a ton of low light situations either. I love the creamy smooth bokeh in the background. Truly wonderful.
Hope ya like it.
